An explanation of the peer review activity you selected for the project you reviewed

I chose to review Gabby's fine cut.

An explanation of how you think you helped the author with your feedback (in other words, how
did you help them make their work better?)

I suggested things to further engage her audience and maintain attention.

An explanation of how you incorporated something from the suggested Student’s Guide readings (or any other course materials, if you’d prefer) into your feedback

I provided global revision suggestions.

One thing about their work that you admired or think you could learn from

We both did video essays and I was beneficial to see another persons project.

I think Rhiannon has a really good paper. She just needs to review and edit some grammar and punctuation.

I suggested some global revisions.

One thing about their work that you admired or think you could learn from

I like how Rhiannon did this from an uncommon opinion stand point.

Revised Post to Peer Review

This blog will provide a fine cut to my Project 3 Video Essay.

Key information about your particular project that you would like anyone who peer reviews your draft to know.

I understand the beginning is a little slow. It is meant as an introduction to SeaWorld's background establishing a foundation for my argument not really to argue the history of SeaWorld.

Major issues or weaknesses in the Fine Cut that you’re already aware of (as well as anything you’d like to know from your editors about those weaknesses).

The slower beginning. There is music in the beginning its just soft.

Major virtues or strengths in the Fine Cut that you’re already aware of (as well as anything you’d like to know from your editors about those strengths).

I hope my viewers can understand my references and have a little laugh in spite of the seriousness of my topic.

Reflection on Project 3

This blog post will provide a reflection on my third project

What were some of the successes (or, things that went right) during this week’s process work?
Explain, with evidence.

I thought of a lot of different visuals and tools to add to my project to better cater to my intended audience. I think I succeeded in providing my opinion while engaging my audience.

What were some of the challenges (or, things that went wrong) during this week’s process work? Explain, with evidence.

I still haven't been feeling 100% which played into both time management and recording time this week.

How do you think next week will go, based on your experiences this week?

I am excited to start our final project.

How are you feeling about the project overall at this point?

I am honestly really proud of this project and the research I put into it along with the little funny / witty aspects of it.

Editorial Report

This blog post will provide an editorial report for project 3

How did the content change when you re-edited it? Why do you think the content is being communicated more effectively in the re-edited version?

Again, I added audio and visuals to further maintain my audience's attention.

How did the form change when you re-edited it? Why do you think the form is presenting the content more effectively in the re-edited version?

I really liked my tone and arguments in this section. I didn't change the audio but I did add different visuals during my editing process.

Open Post to Peer Review

This blog post will provide a rough, rough, cut for my third project.

Rough Cut

Key information about your particular project that you would like anyone who peer reviews your draft to know

Also I know for the second part I don't have visuals but I will be adding those for the final. I'm really looking for comments on my content / tone before I try to make an elaborate project.

I think a major thing to keep in mind is that not only is this a super rough cut, I have also been sick for 2 weeks. It was challenging to find a day when my voice didn't sound like a gremlin in order to record with the right tone. I don't know if I necessarily found that day but I did try so I am sorry if I sound unamused. I was amused I've just been slowly dying.

Major issues or weaknesses in the “Rough Cut” that you’re already aware of (as well as anything you’d like to know from your editors about those weaknesses).

I think my biggest weakness is my tone considering how sick I've been.

Major virtues or strengths in the “Rough Cut” that you’re already aware of (as well as anything you’d like to know from your editors about those strengths)

I have been doing a lot of research and in so my opinion and plan for my entire project have both changed. It is really easy to get swept up in what everyone else says and follow the crowd and I am trying to give a clear headed argument in my project.

Editorial Report 12B

The blog post will provide another edited version of my final cut

How did the content change (even slightly - details matter!) when you re-edited it? Why do you think the content is being communicated more effectively in the re-edited version?

I added a video clip of the original Shamu. I think this gives a sentimental value to the origin of the orca shows. Also a lot of people think the first shamu was a male which is not true.

How did the form change (even slightly - details matter!) when you re-edited it? Why do you think the form is presenting the content more effectively in the re-edited version?

I rerecorded some sections that I felt I sounded too sick. Also in my first draft I said the wrong illness so it was crucial to rerecord that to reestablish my credibility. Other than that I worked pretty hard on my first draft and I liked it enough to not completely change everything.

An explanation of the peer review activity you selected for the project you reviewed

I decided to review Emily's content.

An explanation of how you think you helped the author with your feedback (in other words, how did you help them make their work better?)

I think I was able to guide Emily toward a more QRG aesthetic piece. She mentions herself it looks more like a QRG than a college essay now but she still has a little bit to correct.

An explanation of how you incorporated something from the suggested Student’s Guide readings (or any other course materials, if you’d prefer) into your feedback

I suggested more genre oriented edits for Emily. She has a solid QRG but it could be a little better technical wise.

One thing about their work that you admired or think you could learn from

I like the clean flow of Emily's project. It's a little more difficult to do that in a video essay having to control your voice the entire time but I can incorporate this more into my project.

I selected to make a content suggestion as to what Rigo could add or subtract.

An explanation of how you think you helped the author with your feedback (in other words, how did you help them make their work better?)

Since we are still in the production phase, I think urging Rigo to get a rough video clip up is really beneficial since I know how long it is taking to get my stuff done as well.

An explanation of how you incorporated something from the suggested Student’s Guide readings (or any other course materials, if you’d prefer) into your feedback.

I just suggested Rigo post his video clip just so he could get a clear perspective of what kind of edits he should make instead of edits on a "script".

One thing about their work that you admired or think you could learn from.

I definitely understand if Rigo doesn't have a rough cut up because of a time issue. That's where i am at right now.

Editorial Report 12A

This blog post will provide an edit of a section of my final project.
How did the content change when you re-edited it? Why do you think the content is being communicated more effectively in the re-edited version?

I was able to add video and more sounds to this edited version. I think movement and the visuals makes the impact come to life and give it purpose.

How did the form change when you re-edited it? Why do you think the form is presenting the content more effectively in the re-edited version?

I tried to use a little bit different language and include other animals that are effected at SeaWorld not just orcas

I decided to review Sienna's rough cut and offer form advice.

An explanation of how you think you helped the author with your feedback (in other words, how
did you help them make their work better?).

At complete first glance, I noticed Sienna's paragraphs were a little word heavy. I don't think she needs to cut down the word count but I suggested breaking up the paragraphs a little just to help maintain the readers attention.

An explanation of how you incorporated something from the suggested Student’s Guide readings (or any other course materials, if you’d prefer) into your feedback.

I just made some form suggestions that I know our professor will look for in the final drafts.

One thing about their work that you admired or think you could learn from.

Again, Sienna seems passionate about her Barbie topic like Sarah did. I hope my sick voice doesn't take away from my video essay.

I selected the outline to make sure Sarah continues to check back to it just in case she accidentally strays from what she wants to convey.

An explanation of how you think you helped the author with your feedback (in other words, how
did you help them make their work better?).

I just wanted to remind Sarah to not get so into one subject that she forget the overall goal of the project.

An explanation of how you incorporated something from the suggested Student’s Guide readings (or any other course materials, if you’d prefer) into your feedback.

Sarah has a really solid start. It was difficult to make revision suggestions but I think the main thing for her paper will be staying on topic without varying too much from her original ideas.

One thing about their work that you admired or think you could learn from.

Sarah obviously has a passion for what she is writing about and I hope mine comes through as much as hers does.

Reflection on Production Phase

This blog will provide a review of my production week.

What were some of the successes during this week’s process work?

I learned a lot this week. A lot about how much I do and do not know about my project. Also I've learned how many different sources have different information on the same topic.

What were some of the challenges during this week’s process work?

I have not been feeling well this week so finding a day on which I could record without sounding like a gremlin or a dying cat was definitely a struggle.

How do you think next week will go, based on your experiences this week?

I'm hoping I start feeling better and can record the other segments of my video without unintentionally scaring my audience.

How are you feeling about the project overall at this point?

I like how much I am learning about my subject and figuring out things just how complicated the situation is.

Production Report

This blog post will provide another clip of my Project 3.

Outline Item

"In my first section I will provide a background of Sea World and how the company got started. I will provide dates and records of the owner. These will help people understand why Sea World was founded. This will give people an insight to the founders mind."

Adaptation of Outline Item

Section One Adaptation

How did you decide to use form to present your content in the raw material you’ve shared here?

Again I needed to maintain the audiences attention. To do this I employed the power of visual arts and music.

How did the conventions of your chosen genre influence your choices?

In order to maintain attention and curiosity i needed to use visual and audio files.

How did the production of this raw material go? What kinds of any hiccups, challenges, successes, creative epiphanies, etc. occurred during the process?

Again, I need to learn how to better use video editing software.

Production Report

This blog post will provide one clip of my Project 3.

Outline Item

"In my intro I will clearly state the argument I will be reporting on. I will describe the setting of all Sea World locations not just the California location. I here I will add Sea World theme music and possibly breaching sounds."

Adaptation of Outline Item

Intro Adaptation

How did you decide to use form to present your content in the raw material you’ve shared here?

I decided to incorporate audio, pictures and background music to enhance my raw material.

How did the conventions of your chosen genre influence your choices?

In order to maintain the viewers attention, I needed some in-your-face type content. A video essay with no capturing hooks or persuasive music would be boring and the viewer would choose to not watch.

How did the production of this raw material go? What kinds of any hiccups, challenges, successes, creative epiphanies, etc. occurred during the process?

I still need to learn how to work some of the video editing software so the transitions from picture to picture aren''t so sudden.

An explanation of the peer review activity you selected for the project you reviewed

I chose to review Tim's Research Report of the ten sources he may use for Project 3.

An explanation of how you think you helped the author with your feedback?

Tim had a really good start on his research. It was difficult to offer any more feedback seeing as how he had almost everything done.

An explanation of how you incorporated something from the suggested Student’s Guide readings into your feedback

I suggested Tim possibly look at more videos to add to his project. This will help if he has a time issue.

One thing about their work that you admired or think you could learn from

Tim obvious spent a great deal of time researching just based off how much he got done. I need to go back and research more myself.

I chose to review Katie's research report on her 10 sources.

An explanation of how you think you helped the author with your feedback?

Katie's report was pretty spot on. I feel like offering a video source suggestion was a good way to add to her project.

An explanation of how you incorporated something from the suggested Student’s Guide readings into your feedback

I was able to incorporate global criticism in my review.

One thing about their work that you admired or think you could learn from

As of right now I do not have 10 sources due to time constriction of my own fault. I definitely need to get more.

Reflection on Pre-Production

This blog will reflect on my pre-production for Project 3.

What were some of the successes during this week’s process work?
I was able to find sources that contained information I didn't know of and different points of view like the benefits of SeaWorld.

What were some of the challenges during this week’s process work? Explain, with evidence.
Unfortunately, this week I did not plan as well as I could for this portion of the project. I started my research kind of nonchalantly during the week instead of really looking. This left me the tremendously long first couple of blog posts to do over the weekend.

How do you think next week will go, based on your experiences this week?
Based off how stressful my weekend was with leaving the blog posts to do last, I have a feeling I will start the next set earlier in the week instead of later.

How are you feeling about the project overall at this point?
I'm really excited for this project. I think I know how to work video editing software fairly well and I am really interested in my topic!

hobbies such as hiking & climbing, gaming/programming, following sports or movies or music, etc.
  • i love going places and exploring. fossil creek, sedona, california, mexico, where ever. I also am an avid US womens national team(soccer) fan.
skills you have committed yourself to acquiring like dedication to a sport, an instrument, a practice such as yoga or meditation, etc.
  • I played soccer for 15 years and absolutely loved every  minute of it. I played piano when I was younger but unfortunately did not stick with it.
subjects you’ve read about previously in science or history or literature, etc.
  • i do not really understand if this question is asking about subjects as in people or topics.
subjects connected to your life experiences, places you’ve traveled to, ideologies or philosophies you’ve encountered directly, unique experiences you’ve had.
  • I dont really understand this point either
        2.     What are the preconceptions, previously held opinions and/or potential areas for
personal bias that you should be aware of for Project 3?
  • being an animal lover and hopefully future veterinarian i have really strong opinions on animals in captivity that may spill over into my work
What about any of the following?

Your family of origin, and the spoken or unspoken set(s) of “family values” that come with belonging to that family.
  • my parents always taught me to be who I am and not let others influence what i do
The social class of yourself/your family (consider honestly your family’s level of access to wealth, real estate, travel, leisure, luxury items, etc.).
  • I would say upper middle class. everyone in my family (mom dad me and my sister) all played sports as I was growing up and we got to travel along with that.
The location/geography where you were raised, and whatever local norms, customs, attitudes, traditions, and/or prejudices come with belonging or not belonging.
  • I was born and raised in Glendale, Arizona. I dont really think there were any  norms or stigmas about belonging or not.

The political beliefs of the family, community, area/region or state in which you were raised, and whatever attitudes, beliefs, traditions, values and/or prejudices come with belonging or not belonging.
  • Arizona is predominantly republican. Seeing as though i am only 19 I have not yet learn all i need to about politics.
Your level of access to cultural power, based on things like ethnicity/race, gender, sexual identity, age, level of education, differently-abledness, etc.
  • i dont feel comfortable answering this question

Audience

Based on your plans for Project 3, answer the following…

How are you thinking about your audience for this project? Who are you going to make this for? Describe them.
  • I am going to make my project for the general public. I hope i can provide new information on my subject
What beliefs and assumptions might this audience already hold? What position are they likely to take on this issue? How will you respond to that position?
  • My argument is going to be concerning Sea World. I think most people will side with releasing the animals in captivity
How might they react to your argument?
  • Most people concerning this topic tend to get really amped up about it so i expect a lot of opinions
How are you going to relate to or connect with your audience? Are there any specific words, ideas or ways of arguing that will help you relate to them in this way?
  • I think doing a video essay will emotionally appeal to my audience
Think of one specific person or a set of people you know personally or professionally who fall within the definition of ‘target audience’ you’re using for Project 3. What could you tell them or say to them in order to convince them of your perspective? What would need to happen for them to agree with you?
  • I think my target audience would be people who dont know about the Sea World controversy and those for the matter. I would need a very strong research background

Purpose/Message.
What do you want to accomplish with Project 3? What affect do you want it to have on your intended audience? For instance:

What might you want your audience to do after reading/watching/listening to my project?
  • I want my audience to feel more educated on the matter and have sources to further educate themselves
What might you want your audience to consider after reading/watching/ listening to your project?
  • I want them to consider mainstream animal cruelty and how it is handled in today's age
What might you want your audience to believe after reading/watching/ listening to your project?
  • I want then to believe in hope for a better future for the creatures we share the world with
       2.    Once you’ve done all your research and figured out what you think about the
controversy you’ve chosen, what still needs to be accomplished? For instance:

Is there anything that still needs to be explained or pointed out to the people talking about this issue?
  • The actual longevity and living conditions of orcas in the wild
Is there anything that the people arguing about this need to be reminded of or made aware of?
  • just because you hear one controversial thing does not necessarily mean it's true
Are there any perspectives on the issue that still need to be expressed?
  • more benefits of SeaWorld. Mostly now it's the harm
Are there any persons who we still need to hear from?
  • SeaWorld director
Is there any information that we still need to gather?
  • yes. as of what right now i am unsure

Context

What are the particular circumstances surrounding this assignment?
  • This assignment concerns a public argument.

What genre?

What course genre will you be writing in for Project 3?
  • video essay
What kinds of audience expectations come along with this genre, generally?
  • i would say mostly younger adults / teenagers
What is your history working in the genre you have selected for Project 3?
  • I recently purchased a go-pro and have been playing around with that type of video editing.
Describe your comfort level and general feelings about the genre. How will they affect your work on Project 3?
  • I actually have a lot of fun editing videos but i wish i had better software
What are the two most effective conventions in this genre, in your opinion? Why? Be specific.
  • imaging for emotional appeal
  • voice for tone

When?

Are there any historical events that might impact how your audience perceives your argument or the kind of background information or evidence you need to include? For instance, does media reporting on any of the following involve your issue/subject for Project 3?:
  • Tilikum has killed 3 people since being captured
The approval or rejections of laws and/or budgets by the Executive branch of the U.S. government.
  • 1972 Marine Mammal Protection Act
The explanations made for legal decisions in the Judicial branch of the U.S. government.
  • public outcry
       2.    Who else is talking about this topic? Provide us with working hyperlinks to coverage of the controversy on FOUR different media outlets.
        3.    What are the three or four major counter-arguments you’ll have to respond to, based upon what people are saying in the press/media? Be specific and cite your sources using working hyperlinks.
