Open Post to Peer Production

This blog is for peer review.

Key information about your particular project that you would like anyone who peer reviews your draft to know
Remember it's a rough, rough draft..

Major issues or weaknesses in the “Rough Cut” that you’re already aware of (as well as anything you’d like to know from your editors about those weaknesses)

I could not figure out how to upload my audio files anywhere! If they are choppy I am truly sorry but thank you for your peer review! Also I haven't played with sound effects or anything yet so I know it is just audio and kind of bland at the moment.

Major virtues or strengths in the “Rough Cut” that you’re already aware of (as well as anything you’d like to know from your editors about those strengths)

I really don't know any strengths at this point. I was interested in my interviewees work and what they had to say but I don't think that comes across in my work.

  1. Hi Erin! I'm commenting to let you know I reviewed your rough cut and I would like to give you some recommendations on the form of you podcast!

First of all, I think that your content is really good and you're going in the right direction so I don't think I have anything to say on that. I wanted to comment on your form so I can help you make it really great!

I know that the rough cut that I listened to was a rough cut, but it didn't really have any of the important conventions of a podcast. I think that it would be really helpful if you maybe introduced yourself more at the beginning and your topic clearly. I also think that background music would be helpful in keeping the reader engaged.

I liked how you talked about your interview, but I think that it would be better if you maybe inserted a clip of your interviewee talking, because that would help break up the clip.

I thought that of right now, your project isn't very creative but I think you can do a lot to make it creative. Like I said, maybe introduce yourself like a talkshow host, lead in with some music, provide sound effects, and have sound bites from other people to break up the podcast. Also, if you have someone else talking...thats less work for you:)

I also think that maybe talking more naturally instead of reading from a script could help you. At the end of some of your sentences, your voice goes up as if you're asking a question, and that kinda gets confusing to the reader.

However, I did like how you got right to the point and talked about your example and why it was important.

I thought that your rough cut was good but you can make it a lot better by adding the music and my other suggestions! Keep up the good work and I hope to hear your full project soon!

  2. Hi Erin! I listened to your podcast and really enjoyed it.

I really like the way you incorporated what you learned from your interviews. Instead of just using quotes you almost narrated the interview and the moment leading up to the quotes. It was very engaging. It helped me understand the context of the information you were presenting.

I was unclear on a few things. Most importantly, what is your field of study?

I am pretty sure that your two genres were thesis statements and social media. I understood the explanation of the thesis statement pretty well - I love your description of what work needs to go into making a thesis statement - but I am a bit fuzzy on social media. What kinds of things do they write about on social media? What are the restrictions put on the professionals on social media? What are some of the rhetorical concepts that affect the writing on social media?

I think some additional sources could really benefit you. I like the examples of titles of thesis statements, they provide a neat glimpse into what the writing could be about. Maybe include some distinguishing examples from those thesis statements?

I am also curious about the importance of informal communication in this field. Is it a new genre? How does it affect social media? Are they related?

Overall your podcast was very interesting. I enjoyed your narration and content. Good luck finishing it up!
